Print Color Mode

Critical: Always convert colors to CMYK mode before printing. RGB colors are for digital/screen use only and will not print accurately.

Converting Colors

  • Adobe Software: Use "Convert to Profile" or "Edit → Convert to Profile" → Choose CMYK
  • Canva: Download as PDF Print (automatically converts to CMYK)
  • General Rule: Always work in CMYK color mode when designing for print

Pantone Color Matching

For Spot Color Printing: If using Pantone spot colors, specify the Pantone number to your printer. This ensures exact color matching across all print runs.

When to Use Pantone

  • Large print runs where color consistency is critical
  • Brand colors that must match exactly
  • Specialty printing (foil, embossing, etc.)
  • When budget allows for spot color printing

Color Proofing

Always Request: A printed color proof before final production, especially for large print runs. Monitor colors may differ from printed colors.

Proofing Checklist

  • Verify CMYK values match specifications
  • Check color accuracy against brand guidelines
  • Ensure contrast is sufficient for readability
  • Test on actual paper stock if possible
  • Compare with previous print jobs for consistency
